‘I Saw Three Ships’ – St. Andrew’s Christmas concert, an evening of traditional Christmas Carols with new arrangements, will take place on Sunday, 9 December 2012 from 7.30 p.m. onwards at St. Andrew’s Scots Kirk, located at No. 73, Galle Road, Colombo 3.
The concert will include well known carols that everyone loves to sing this time of year. ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’, ‘Joy to the World’, ‘We Three Kings of Orient Are’, ‘I Saw Three Ships’, ‘Silent Night’, and many more will receive refreshing new arrangements, heard for the first time in Sri Lanka.
The songs will be sung by two choirs known for their beautiful renditions of choral music – Voice of Praise, the chamber choir affiliated to St. Andrew’s, and the Colombo Philharmonic Choir. They will be conducted by Manilal Weerakoon and accompanied by Denham Pereira, who will be playing the Johannus digital organ at St. Andrew’s.
The Colombo Brass Ensemble, led by Naveen Fernando, principal trumpeter of the Sri Lanka Symphony Orchestra, will accompany the congregation with superb brass arrangements that is bound to put everyone present into the spirit of Christmas.
Entrance to the concert is free and there will be a retiring offering at the end. All are welcome.
