The launch of the Volume III of ‘Sri Lankan Buddhist Art – The Southern Tradition’, the result of Gamini Jayasinghe’s singularly untiring efforts in photo-documenting the ancient Buddhist wall paintings of Sri Lanka, which is also the final volume of the ‘Sri Lankan Buddhist Art’ trilogy, was held on July 29, 2011 at the Galle Face Hotel.

Gamini Jayasinghe’s indefatigable efforts backed by Sampath Bank and Sarasavi Publishers calls to attention the pressing need for the preservation of Buddhist Temple Art in Sri Lanka, which are national treasures, but are now threatened with decay and extinction due to years of abandon.

Sarasavi Publishers, a publishing firm of repute in the island and Sampath Bank, Sri Lanka’s own premier banking partner has been the driving forces behind this project, undertaking the sponsoring of the temple visits, launching ceremony costs and the publishing costs.

Gamini Jayasinghe, Sarasavi Publishers and Sampath Bank firmly believe that this publication will serve to create awareness among art lovers and the public on the significance of conservation of these masterpieces for the future generations.
