The students of The Cantabilé School of Singing present ‘Dazzle – In a singing style’ on Saturday 27 September at The Bishop’s College Auditorium from 7 p.m. onwards. The concert directed by Prashalini Peiris will also feature a guest act by Asteria Female Voice Choir directed by Mahen Peiris. Founded in 2004 The Cantabilé School of Singing has nurtured students who are keen in learning and performing the art of vocal and choral music. The concert is set to bring out the skill and talent of the students as they present songs in the form of vocal coupled with dance sequences. The school at present has over 100 students and the cast taking part at this show amounts to about 80 students aged between 7 and 35 who represent the junior, intermediate and senior categories. The junior students are choreogrphed by Keshia Kumaresan and the intermediate and senior students are choreographed by Asahnthi Colombage. “We have not been able to do concerts every year due to large group of students taking exams and we did not want them to crowd their studies with practice sessions. But the students are always eager to take part in a concert of this scale,” The Cantabilé School of Singing Director Prashalini Peiris explained. She also added that this year a variety of songs have been picked which will entertain audiences of all age groups, “Some of the songs were suggested by the students itself and we noticed that they enjoy performing songs they like.” Commenting further about The Cantabilé School of Singing Prashalini noted that, “The regular classes for students are held once a week and are held at different times. Each class has around 20 students of each age group but for concerts all the age groups come together two months prior to a concert for practices. During this time not only do they learn dance sequences to perform while they sing but also learn to work as a team.” A mixture of choral styles including semi classical, Broadway, Disney, pop, jazz, rock and acapella arrangments will be featured throughout this show. The students will perform songs by artists such as Freddy Mercury (Queen), Michael Jackson, Pharrell Williams, Boyzone, Taio Cruz, Bruno Mars, Whitney Houston, FUN, LMFAO; official sound tracks from movies such as Frozen, Pitch Perfect, GLEE; and songs from famous musicals such as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita & Jesus Christ Superstar.
