British Indian and top model Kiran Rai has landed a Sri Lankan film lead with filming already underway. Kiran Rai will feature in the movie, Parachute, directed by Louis van der Straten. The 22-year-old is originally from Nottingham but from the age of 5 to 17, after experiencing troubles at school and with his family, he moved to live in east London with his aunt in George Lane, South Woodford. Dropping out of school and suffering from a series of breakdowns, he also lived intermittently with his uncle in Maple Road, Leytonstone. He has been cast in the lead of the love story with the film set to be released in Sinhalese with his voice due to be dubbed. He said: “I was in Sri Lanka before Christmas and saw that auditions were being held and I just asked for them to give me a chance. “I heard rumours they had already cast the lead role and I thought I had missed the boat but they agreed to let me do an audition and couldn’t believe it when I got the role.” Rai has worked as a model with Duke Clothing and has been the face of Birmingham Fashion Week for two years running. While he moved to Twickenham two years ago, he said he will always remember his time growing up in Leytonstone and South Woodford. He said: “I consider myself an east Londoner, it is a brilliant area and my cousin used to go to Forest School in Snaresbrook so I have lots of friends from the area. “I remember Leytonstone was a tricky area with a few stabbings around where I lived but I think it has real character, and I always look forward to going back to George Lane in South Woodford. “I had a tough childhood in Nottingham and east London became a sanctuary for me and I will always be grateful to my aunt and uncle.” Parachute is due to be released this year in the UK as well as south Asia, with dates to be confirmed. Kiran Rai is a young British Indian and top model for Birmingham fashion weeks, Ambassador for clothing lines and ASOS.com, award winning actor, has sold out shows and has thousands of screaming fans around Latin America.
