Bollywood fame Shaan to perform at India Independence Day Concert

As part of the series of events being organised on the occasion of the 68th Independence Day of India (15 August), the Indian CEO Forum, in collaboration with the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, is organising an Independence Day Concert by the famous Indian singer Shaan (Shantanu Mukherjee) on 17 August at 6:30 p.m. at Stein Studios, No. 20, 2nd Cross Street, Borupana Road, Ratmalana. Shantanu Mukherji, popularly known as Shaan, is one of the leading playback singers in Bollywood today and has been the voice of many of Bollywood’s leading men, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Saif Ali Khan. Shaan has over the years performed extensively across India and all over the world. This is his first performance in Sri Lanka. Born on 30 September, 1972, in Mumbai, Shaan had his first release, A Bengali Nursery Rhymes album, when he was 5 years old. Shaan’s career as an Indipop star started with hit albums called Nawjawan and Q – Funk, which sold a million copies each. This was followed by the album Roop Tera Mastana, a remix album of R.D. Burman’s songs that brought him further into the limelight. Shaan launched the album, Loveology, after this, which, too, was well received. In 2002 he won the MTV Asia Music Award for his album, Tanha Dil. Shaan became a household name in India after hosting a television programme titled “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa”, a singing talent hunt on Zee TV (2002 till 2006); and later on the “Voice of India” on Star TV (2006 to 2008). Shaan’s playback career started with hits like Musu Musu and Woh Pehli Baar (Pyar Me Kabhi Kabhi). His latest hits include Chand Sifarish (Fanaa), Jab Se Tere Naina (Saawariya), Don (Don), Deewangi (Om Shanti Om), Dus Bahane (Dus) and Where’s the Party Tonight? (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna). Even though dance is not his forte, Shaan participated in 2013 in the television dance show: “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa”, and was one of the finalists. Shaan has won many distinguished awards including Filmfare Awards (2007, 2008), Zee Cine Awards(2003, 2007, 2008), International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards(2007, 2008) and Screen Awards(2002, 2007). The latest awards include IIFA and Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA) Awards  2010 as Best Playback singer – Male for the song, Behti Hawa Sa from the film,  3-Idiots. Shaan has also collaborated with international artists like Mel C (Sporty Spice) on a remix version of Tanha Dil; British boy band, Blue (on One Love – Asia Mix); Michael Learns to Rock (on Take Me To Your Heart); and The John Lennon Tribute Album (Give Peace a Chance). Shaan’s visit to Sri Lanka is being organized by the Indian CEO Forum with active support of Lanka IOC, Lanka Ashok Leyland, Ultra Tech Cement, Piramal Glass, LIC, Asian Paints, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Ceat Tyres, Revlon Lanka, Work wear Lanka, Stone Asia, Indian Bank, JV Gokal; Blue Scope Lysaght, IRCON, Siemens, Axis Bank, Tata Communications, Standard Chartered Bank, Indian Overseas Bank,Siemens and Brandix in collaboration with the High Commission of India, Sri Lanka, and with the association of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Arts, Government of Sri Lanka. The hospitality partner is Taj Samudra, Colombo, and transport partners are Jet Airways, Sunshine Holdings, Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC and ECD Global Ltd.
