Prepare yourself for an exquisite journey through Hollywood as you encounter songs and dances from different movie genres with Elizabeth Moir School’s new production, ‘Boardwalk’.
Elizabeth Moir School has gained a reputation for groundbreaking, innovative and exceptionally professional shows through previous sell-out concerts such as Revolve (2010), FLUX (2009) and S.O.S. (2008).
This year’s production has the same combination of different dance genres with choral and solo singing that has made previous productions must-see performances in Colombo and this year promises to be even more exciting with more variety, more special effects and more original musical arrangements.
The concert is a journey into Hollywood ‘from the studio to the street’ with music and dance inspired by popular film genres like Science Fiction, Westerns, High School dramas and Bond films.
Prepare yourself for a musical explosion with songs by artists from Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson to Bruno Mars and Rihanna.
The cutting-edge original mash-ups are a particular highlight, giving much-loved old favourites a new twist and more contemporary feel.
The dancing is equally fresh and original, taking in an extremely wide variety of style from a cheerleading routine to popping and locking.
No expense has been spared, meanwhile, with the spectacular lighting and stunning visuals and projections.
As ever with the school’s concerts, there’s a few surprises too that will amaze the audience with breathtaking special effects. So hold on tight, strap yourself in, and launch yourself into Elizabeth Moir School’s very own version of Hollywood.
The show is directed and produced by students Avishka Mendis, Dilroshini Karunaratne and Shamira Ghouse who are star performers from the school’s previous concerts with a wealth of experience behind them.
They have received invaluable guidance and support from Aida Mansoor, who has numerous tremendously successful shows under her belt such as Dazzle (2006), as well as past student Zara Mathew, the director of 2007’s Breakin’ Bars, who has helped with the choreography.
The incredibly talented Loushanie Ranatunga and Lois Tull Dare sing impeccable solos, while the dancers are led by familiar faces like Shevangi Sadesh Kumar along with brilliant newcomers like Lu Lua Mohamed.
With many of the cast seeming to have grown up on stage, it is no surprise that Elizabeth Moir School keeps on turning out such brilliant performers, but the quality of their young casts never ceases to amaze.
