At first glance, a garage, a dumpster or a place where rejected fabric linger in every corner may not appear as the sources for something artistic. However, ARTRA Magazine Endowment 3 is all about showcasing how these spaces give birth to many contemporary forms of art which are gaining significance in the world of art.
Some of the individuals of team ARTRA including Noeline Fernando, Jude Perera, Pavithra Jovan De Mello, Deeandra Bulner, Anisha Niyas, Chandana Gunathilaka and Dharmasiri Pathirage, bring to light how they have creatively used or perceived unconventional material in pursuing their artistic endeavours.
Azara Jaleel, the editor of ARTRA Magazine stated, “ARTRA Magazine is all about providing content that questions our understanding of art, and this time around, our food for thought is riveting and surprising.” The features of the third issue are further enriched by critical reviews on various performances of art that took place in the months of October and November. Some of the reviews include Ariel Dorfman’s ‘Widows’ directed by Feroze Kamardeen, Jerome De Silva’s ‘Evita’, Jehan Aloysius’ ‘Rag’, the SLDF Design Festival and the American Embassy’s cartoon exhibition.
This time, the arts calendar will provide information on the art events that will be taking place in the months of December and January. Furthermore, Cynosure and Asela Perera provide insight into ways in which musicians could get their singles heard in the public realm through the reader-friendly 10 tips section. Also, from this issue onwards, ‘Colombo Fashion Week’ will be a part of ARTRA’s artistic circles, providing insights about the design industry and its artistic direction in Sri Lanka.
This issue hit the shelves at Barefoot, Sarasavi, Vijitha Yapa, Makeen Bookshops and www.books.lk on the first week of December for purchase. For subscriptions, call 0772305054, and for online purchase of ARTRA Magazine Endowment 3 visit http://www.magzter.com/LK/Jaz-Publishing/ARTRA/Art/
