American Center hosts Poetry Slam – Season XVJ

Text & Pix: Ruzaik Farook The great Poet Khalil Gibran mentioned, “Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary.” A poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original work. The American Center hosted ‘Poetry Slam – Season XVJ recently at the American Center Auditorium for children under age 12 and Nabeel Abdul Barry of Wesley College Colombo was the winner. He received his certificate from US Embassy Sri Lanka and Maldives Cultural Affairs Officer Dawn Suni. The poets enthralled the audience with emotional presentations of their original works. They covered various themes based on performers’ feelings and experience. Suni emceed the event. On behalf of the American Center, she presented certificates and gifts to the winners at the end of the program. The American Center will continue to serve as a platform especially for talented young Sri Lankans to express themselves freely and creatively by hosting an ongoing series.
