Coming to theatres this New Year is fantasy action film ‘47 Ronin’ which will be screened at Majestic City Superior Cinema (3D version) and Liberty Lite on 10 January. Starring Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuli Sanasa, Tadanobu Asano, and Rinko Kikuchi, 47 Ronin is about a band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonour of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honour to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai - a half-breed they once rejected as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity. 47 Ronin, which was released this Christmas, is directed by Carl Erik Rinsch based on a screenplay by ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’ screenwriter Chris Morgan and ‘The Wings of the Dove’ screenwriter Hossein Amini. While the film is based on the true story of an actual group of 47 Ronin, it is a fantastical take, being set in a world of witches and giants. The movie is imported to Sri Lanka by Liberty Cinemas.
