Friday 29 April is the deadline for submissions for ‘Write to Reconcile’, a free creative writing program focussed on reconciliation in Sri Lanka. The program is open to Sri Lankans and members of the diaspora between the ages of 18-29, as well as Sri Lankan teachers and professors of any age. 25 participants will be selected to work closely with the celebrated Sri Lankan author Shyam Selvadurai, who will teach the participants the tools of creative writing at an all-expenses paid seven-day workshop at a hotel in Anuradhapura.
During the workshop, participants will also visit the Vanni and border villages to develop their understanding of how these areas were affected by the war and how they function post-war. Following the workshop, there will be an online forum during which participants will present and workshop creative work. Shyam Selvadurai will then help each participant prepare a creative piece for publication in ‘Write to Reconcile Anthology 3’, which will be published and distributed free island wide in March 2017. The project is sponsored by the American Centre. For further information and to download an application form, go to www.writetoreconcile.com.
