Robot 2.0 is an Indian science fiction film produced by Subashkaran Allirajah through London based Lyca productions. The film was written and directed by S. Shankar and co-written by B. Jeyamohan. A spiritual successor to the 2010 Tamil film ‘Enthiran’, the film will feature Rajinikanth reprising the roles of Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti, alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson. Amy Jackson is the only actress on the set. The music is directed by world renowned musician A.R. Rahman. The film will be released in three languages: Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. With an estimated budget of Indian Rs. 350 crore (3.5 billion), it’s the most expensive Indian film till date.
Lyca Productions is an Indian entertainment company, which was established by Subaskaran Allirajah in 2014. A subsidiary of Lycamobile, the production studio has been involved in the production and distribution of films made in India. To date the company has produced several films in Kollywood namely Kaththi, Enakku Innoru Per Irukku, Yeman, Sabaash Naidu, Khaidi No. 150, Ikka and Vada Chennai .
Robot 2.0 could be the most expensive ‘first look poster launch’ event for a feature film in the Indian Cinema. The production house has commissioned wiz craft a well-known entertainment and communications company, to put together the most expensive first-look event, pegged at a whopping Indian Rs. 6 crore. The launched was held at Yash Raj Films Ltd., Mumbai.
The event which will be broadcast live on Lyca production’s YouTube channel is likely to be followed by marketing blitzkrieg in India through newspapers and television, with the marketing budget pegged at Indian Rs. 40 crore. Raju Mahalingam said that Tamil fans need not feel disappointed about the event being held in Mumbai. The company hope to organise much bigger events in the coming months across cities in India.
