For over a decade, the Mind Adventures Theatre Company, headed by Tracy Holsinger, has encouraged performers and audiences alike to ‘rethink theatre’, constantly innovating and redefining the rules of theatre and stage in Sri Lanka.
One of the company’s most popular forays into pushing the boundaries of traditional entertainment is the high energy, audience interactive competition – ‘Act Before You Think’ (ABYT). Inspired by the famous TV show ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’, the competition challenges teams of unprepared, unrehearsed contestants to compete against each other in a series of impromptu theatre-games. ABYT requires teams to demonstrate creativity, intelligence and spontaneity.
This year three teams will participate in an informal version of the actual competition. Each team will be made up of two actors who will find their third and fourth members from volunteers in the audience. The actors are Arun Welandawe-Prematilleke, Imani Perera, Shanuki de Alwis, Shanaka Amarasinghe, Pasan Ranaweera and Dino Corera. Volunteers will be invited up during the event. However those interested in getting in early and ensuring their place on a team, should email Mind Adventures at [email protected] or send them a message on their Facebook page. ‘Act Before You Think’ will take place on 27, 28 and 29 November at the British Council Library. The evening will commence at 8 p.m. on all nights. Tickets are priced at Rs. 1,000 per night and are available at takas.lk, the British Council Library and at the door.
ABYT is presented by the Mind Adventures Theatre Company and is one of the many theatrical events that will take place as part of the company’s year as Artists in Residence at The British Council.
