President Maithripala Sirisena handed over the open display boards established at Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha in Colombo to the street artists on 20 December. This step was taken with the aim of strengthening the street artists who are trying to stand on their own feet.
This event was jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Tourism Board, Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Colombo Municipal Council and the Association of Street Artists.
After observing the open display boards opened for each street artist, the President participated in the ceremony that followed.A portrait of the President created by a member Lakshman Dissanayake of the Association with black chalk was presented to the President by the President of Association of Street Artists A.C.Nuwan.Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Director General Malraj B.Kiriella presented a book on street artists to the President.
MinisterFaiszerMustapha, Mahaweli Authority Director General Gotabhaya Jayarathne and distinguished guests including diplomats participated on this occasion.
