The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka and the Korea Foundation will co-host the sixth Korean Film Festival from 8 to 11 November at the National Film Corporation (NFC) Theatre, Colombo 7, in partnership with the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka. Admission is free of charge. All the films will be screened with English subtitles.
The Korean Film Festival 2019 takes place from 8 November at 6:30 p.m. The opening film of the festival will be ‘Little Forest’ (drama, 2018), starring Kim Tae-ri (The Handmaiden). The film is ‘openhearted but still sharp-minded and quietly mysterious’.
Before the first day screening, the Embassy will offer complimentary drinks and Korean snacks to the audience. If the audience brings his/her business card or provides his/her name on the blank card, the audience can take part in the Lucky Draw after the first day screening.
On the second and third day (9 and 10 November), the screening time is 3 p.m. ‘Stand by Me’ a.k.a. ‘Deok-gu’ (Drama 2018) will be shown on Saturday. It is ‘a heart breaking movie that will make you cry’. On Sunday ‘The Tunnel’ (Action, Drama, 2016), which is a ‘Fantastic survival drama-type film’ will be shown.
On the last day (Monday, 11 November), ‘Run-Off’ a.k.a. ‘Take Off 2’ (Sports, 2016) will be screened at 6:30 p.m. This film was inspired by the real story of the Korean women’s national ice hockey team and its challenge in the 2003 Aomori Asian Winter Games.
The festival hopes to provide Sri Lankan people with an opportunity to better understand Korea’s culture and society through the medium of contemporary films.
