Two technical papers were presented at the Energy Trends on Demand Management Technical Session of Energy Symposium Sri Lanka 2015 on a new system based on a community driven management solution to streamline the management of Lighting for Roads and Public Spaces (LRPS) and Benchmarking of Electricity Distribution Licensees Operating in Sri Lanka, by Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).

“Irrational use of lighting in roads and public places can cause negative incentive on energy conservation activities and the methodology to be implemented is reviewing the status-quo of the Sri Lankan practices in line with the international best practices for LRPS and recommendation is dealt with replication of the best practices in Sri Lanka,” stated PUCSL Deputy Director Economic Studies Shantha Jayasinghe, presenting the technical paper.

Presenting the technical paper on Benchmarking of Electricity Distribution Licensees Operating in Sri Lanka, PUCSL Assistant Director Licensing Lilantha Neelawala mentioned that the paper focuses on producing a suitable benchmarking methodology by studying prominent benchmarking techniques used in international regulatory regimes and by analysing the applicability of them to Sri Lankan context, where only five distribution licensees are operating at present. The paper has pointed out that the efficiency of the distribution licensees could be improved through the regulation of annual revenue of the licensees.
