The Vidulka National Energy Efficiency Award 2016, organised by the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Sunithya Energy Authority, was held last week at the BMICH, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The objective of the awards ceremony is to take Sri Lanka progressively towards energy security. This also aims at promoting the energy management activities carried out by the Sri Lanka Sunithya Energy Authority and other related institutions.
Organisations that are engaged in energy efficiency activities, energy management activities and efficiency resource management are recognised and commended at the national level at this award ceremony.
The President presented awards for personal excellence in energy management to A.R.M. Munas. Prof. Mohan Munasinghe was awarded for the implementation of policies in the field of energy. The President also presented a posthumous award to the late P. K. Upawansha who lost his life in the process of taking energy services to the people. His son Sarath Upawansha received the award from the President.
President Sirisena also launched the official website of the Sri Lanka Sunithya Energy Authority at the occasion.
Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera, Secretary to the Ministry Dr. B.M.S. Batagoda and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Sinithya Energy Authority Keerthi Wickramarathna were also present at the occasion.
