The International Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL) which is the association of the most recognised and leading international schools in Sri Lanka appointed new office bearers at the Annual General Meeting which was held recently.
Alethea International School Executive Director Kumari Hapugalle Perera was appointed the new Chairperson. Hapugalle Perera counts over 40 years in the educational field hailing from a family which has been synonymous with Alethea for over 90 years. She was also the Founder General Secretary of TISSL.
Leeds International Network of Schools Coordinating Principal Malithi Jayastissa continues in her role as General Secretary of TISSL. She has been serving the Executive Committee for the last two years and has been a driving force of the association.
Asian International School Principal Harshana Perera assumed the responsibilities of Treasurer while Regent International School Principal Chrishanthi Wickrema Arachchi continues in the office of Public Relations Secretary.
The outgoing Chairperson, Dr. Kumari Grero and the Founder Chairman of TISSL Dr. Harsha Alles both serve on the Executive Committee as Ex-officio members. This year the association also appointed Dr. Frank Jayasinghe as its Patron, recognising the contribution made by him to the cause of education for many decades.
TISSL has grown in its standing since its re-organisation five years ago, to be identified as the collective representation of international schools that operate in Sri Lanka. The Association now has over 23 member schools which count for a student population of over 60,000 from all parts of the country.
TISSL organises sports and extracurricular activities among international schools with a view to promoting goodwill and healthy competition among the students of member schools. Most coveted among these events is the International Schools Athletic Championships (ISAC) which brings together nearly 1,000 participants.
TISSL has also successfully organised the Annual Conference for Heads of Schools which is now the most prestigious gathering of heads of school and stakeholders in education. This year the Annual Conference is scheduled for 15-17 November to be held at the Mariott Hotel, Weligama. The theme for the conference will be ‘Leading and Learning in Turbulent Times’ which is sure to draw the attention of educationists both in Sri Lanka and the region.
TISSL has decided to open its membership for schools who follow the international curriculum. Those schools who are interested please contact the General Secretary of TISSL.
The new Executive Committee of TISSL is looking forward to productively engaging with all stakeholders to further the cause of education in Sri Lanka and thereby contribute to national progress.
