The Peterite Walk 2012, ‘Walk for the College Chapel,’ will be held on 13 May.
This project is being organised by the Old Boys Union of the College with the support of the College Parent Teachers Association and The Welfare Society, together with the College authorities and students. The entire College is getting together to make this great event a success.
The day will start at 7:30a.m. with Mass at the quadrangle of the College, which will be concelebrated by the Rector of St. Peter’s College Rev. Fr. Travis Gabriel, together with old Peterite priests and the priest community in College.
The walk is expected to commence immediately after the mass. The route for the walk will be from St. Peter’s to Wellawatte and turn back at the traffic lights to walk to the Dickman’s Road junction and return to College.
Thereafter a carnival atmosphere will prevail at the College Grounds where a whole heap of fun events have been lined up so that students, their parents, old boys of the College and well-wishers will have a day of fun. Fr. Travis Gabriel commenting on this event at a press briefing held recently said that apart from the fund raising aspect of the walk, this will be an occasion for all Petes of all ages to come together in an atmosphere of camaraderie and good cheer.
It was also mentioned at the press briefing held recently that St. Peters College was the first-ever school in Sri Lanka to organise a walk for a cause, which was held in 1986 when Mano Chanmugam was the President of the Old Boys Union.
The Organising Committee headed by Rohan Victoria have gone to great lengths to make this day one that will be long remembered by all Peterites. Make sure you don the college t-shirt and cap and be there in college at 7:30a.m. on Sunday 13 May.
T-shirts, caps and other memorabilia could be purchased from the Old Boys Union House and the College Gym.
