Leading Australian chef Adam D’Sylva visited Sri Lanka recently to promote Australia’s fine food and wine exports and the growing ties between Australia and Sri Lanka in the culinary arts.
During his visit chef D’Sylva curated ‘A Taste of Australia’ event at the Australian Residence, displaying some of the best Australian produce to Sri Lanka’s leading tourism, hospitality and business figures. The evening was a great success, with guests enjoying dishes featuring Australian beef, duck, lamb and barramundi paired with fantastic Australian wines.
Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Bryce Hutchesson emphasised the significant opportunities to grow bilateral trade in food and beverages, particularly as Sri Lanka’s tourism sector develops. Qantas Regional General Manager for the Middle East, Africa, India and South Asia, Rohan Garnett said Qantas, as Australia’s national carrier, was very pleased to be part of ‘A Taste of Australia’ hosted by the Australian High Commission.
Adam D’Sylva also visited students at the Colombo Academy of Hospitality Management, a joint venture between the Sri Lanka Institute of Information and Technology and Australia’s William Angliss Institute. Adam put on a cooking masterclass for the students, inspiring a new generation of Sri Lanka’s aspiring young chefs and further building on the strong ties between Australia and Sri Lanka.
