The Sri Lanka Embassy in Ankara, Turkey organised ‘Taste of Sri Lanka,’ a Sri Lankan cuisine display to promote Sri Lanka at the My Asia Restaurant located at the popular Antalya Beach Park in Antalya on 5 November.
Member of Turkey-Sri Lanka Inter Parliamentary Friendship Group MP of Antalya Province Abdurrahman Başkan inaugurated the event along with Ambassador M. Rizvi Hassen, Provincial Head of MHP Party Hilmi Durgun and Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Antalya Ali Kamburoglu.
My Asia Restaurant Partner and Executive Chef Sahan Moratuwage and prominent Turkish Chef Mustafa Erol enthralled the guests with the cooking demonstration of Sri Lankan popular cuisines lamprais, hoppers, kottu roti and watalappan.
Chief Guest Başkan speaking at the occasion said that understanding of a particular culture of a friendly country begins with experiencing its food. He added that effort by the Embassy to promote Sri Lankan cuisine in Turkey was commendable as Turks get lesser opportunity to taste them. Elaborating on his experience of tasting authentic Ceylon Tea, he said: “When we say Sri Lanka, we all think of Ceylon Tea, which we know from our childhood.”
The guests had the opportunity to witness the uniqueness of Sri Lankan Siddhalepa Ayurveda and Spa products which was on display at the event. Sri Lankan Ayurveda doctor Sethsiri Wijesinghe made a presentation on benefits of Sri Lankan traditional Ayurveda treatment methods and effective of the traditional medicines made out of local herbs.
A large number of media personnel, business personalities and hoteliers attended enjoyed the cuisine with pure Ceylon Tea served.
