Resplendent Ceylon has announced the visit of Michelin starred chef Bernd Machofer and distinguished New Zealand Winemaker Kai Schubert to Sri Lanka for a culinary sensation next week.

Bernd has curated a special six course menu which has been beautifully paired with Schubert wines with the assistance of importer Decanter Wines. These intimate gatherings will be held at the Dining Pavilion at Wild Coast Tented Lodge on 4 October and the Tableau Restaurant at Cape Weligama on 5 October.

Bernd has a passion for Japanese and south-east Asian food which he combines beautifully with elements of classic cuisine. Graduate of the Hotel Academy Heidelberg, Bernd worked in Switzerland and Germany at several Michelin star restaurants before opening his own, Restaurant Bachofer, near Stuttgart, which was awarded a Michelin star in 2015. A global search for the perfect conditions for viticulture, especially for Pinot Noir, brought Kai Schubert, graduate of the German Viticulture and Oenology University to the Wairarapa, New Zealand. Schubert vineyards are closely planted and the unique climate produces low yielding, internationally award winning wines with intense and complex character.

Wild Coast Tented Lodge sits on a secluded beach on the edge of Yala National Park. 28 vaulted ‘Cocoon’ tents offer the comfort of a luxury hotel with the excitement of an authentic safari experience. Accommodation for one night in a Cocoon Suite on a double occupancy, fully inclusive basis, Rs. 57,000 [wine dinner paid separately]. Additional nights on double occupancy, fully inclusive basis including a daily game drive, Rs. 75,500.

Cape Weligama is the most sumptuous resort along this fabled island’s palm fringed shores. Thirty minutes east of Galle, Cape Weligama’s 39 villas and suites inhabit 12 tropical acres atop a singular promontory rising 40 metres above the Indian Ocean. Accommodation on double occupancy basis in a Junior or Master Suite, with breakfast, Rs. 54,600.
