Colombo is adorned with stripes of many colours as “Big Match” season takes hold of the entire city. Adding to the long-list of places-to-be this March is the celebrations of Women’s Day early in the month and of course the beginning of the school rugby season among many others.
What better way to continue the party than to bring it down to Colombo’s entertainment hub Waters Edge? The scenic hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the city has in store its own dose of “madness” to add to the revelry.
Celebrating wonder women
Starting off on 8 March, Waters Edge will celebrate all ‘wonder women’ in all shapes, forms and sizes at an especially curated high tea done with much love and care by Executive Pastry Chef Nalin Hewage. Priced at Rs. 1,750 nett per person, this high tea will feature hand-picked sweets and savouries for you to enjoy with your friends, co-workers or women you look up to.
Thinking of indulging the favourite women in your life with a treat this Women’s Day? Then the Bakery at the Edge has you covered with an array of sweets for the sweet ones and savouries for the spicy. Delicious designer cakes, cupcakes, cookies, flowers from Lassana Flora and glittering jewellery from Chamathka will have you spoilt for choice when you want to spoil that special lady.
If you are feeling like unwinding and letting your hair down this Women’s Day, then the Long Bar invites you to toast to good times at ‘Ladies Night’ happening on 8 March. This event will feature free Cosmopolitans for the ladies, gifts, games and surprises. Don’t worry about the boys, as they too can join the party after 10 p.m.
March Madness
Once the game is done and regardless of who won and who didn’t, everyone is going to need the perfect watering hole. From 9 March onwards the Boardwalk is enticing groups of 10 and above with some exciting deals.
The restaurant cum bar overlooking the Diyawanna Lake is offering groups of 10 the opportunity to bring your own bottle provided that a minimum of 1,500 per person is spent on chasers and bites. For larger groups of 20 or more the offer is extended with 15% off your food bill.
Thuna Paha is one
In celebration of the first anniversary at the authentic Sri Lankan restaurant Thuna Paha, a grand buffet priced at Rs. 3,300 nett will be put together on 11 March. The evening will feature a ‘paduru sajjey’ and there will be a guest appearance by renowned Sri Lankan actor and singer Kamal Addararachchi.
The Feast of St. Patrick
In commemoration of Saint Patrick’s Day, Waters Edge will bring alive typical Irish food and beverages on 17 March at the Long Bar. Dance to the sounds of the Slipping Chairs and don’t forget to wear green!
Good France Dinner
Together with the French Embassy in Sri Lanka, Waters Edge will once again celebrate French gastronomy with a specially curated seven-course dinner at Pranzo on 21 March. Priced at Rs. 8,500 nett per person this dinner created by award-winning Executive Chef Buddhi will also feature perfectly paired up sparkling wine.
Rotti for the soul
Nothing makes a better midnight snack than some piping hot rotti. Add spicy mutton curry, traditional chicken curry, creamy seafood, good ol’ eggs or some stir-fried vegetables inside it and you have a treat like no other. From 29-31 March the Night Kade will pay homage to this favourite Sri Lankan street food.
