In an effort to recognise and socially include underprivileged orphans in the country, Vision Care, the leading provider of eye care and hearing solutions, recently sponsored a fun-filled Avurudu celebration with the participation of 126 children from two orphanages with the permission of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services (WP).
Held on 24 April at the premises of the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA), the event began with a tour around the city of Colombo including Galle Face Green and Independence Arcade Square, followed by a lunch at OPA.
Thereafter they were entertained with many Avurudu games and each child was gifted a school bag filled with books and stationery. Further the auditorium also hosted presentations on general health and fitness. The two orphanages were Wajira Sri Baby Child Development Center, Pitakotte and Neguchi Child Development Center, Pepilyana.
A company spokesperson quoted, “We are delighted to have partnered with organisations that organise and immensely support noteworthy causes which will reduce the number of orphans in Sri Lanka, and enhance and uplift their standards through community development activities and agendas.”
Sri Lanka has tens of thousands of orphans and only a proportionate amount has the privilege of living in an orphanage or home. The country today experiences a culture of giving and donating primarily with the contribution from the private sector.
“We believe that it’s important to go beyond care and also to share and contribute to the local society in turn so that they may be well equipped to serve those in need. We hope to continue and further strengthen such initiatives in the future,” the quote further added.
Established in 1974, the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka together with the joint partnership with several professional bodies primarily caters to the country’s growing need of professional opinion.
Globally OPA has over 50,000 members in various fields ranging from medical to legal, engineering to marketing, management and various other professional institutions. It holds regular seminars and lectures for members and the public, creating awareness on good governance and for the development of the country.
Known for its years of trusted excellence and continuous introductions and adoption of the latest technology in the field, Vision Care is the market leader in eye care and hearing solutions in the country today with fully qualified optometrists and professionals who conduct thorough, comprehensive eye examinations using state-of-the-art equipment to establish one’s eye sight and the health of the eye.
