For the third consecutive year, Textured Jersey Lanka is helping to build a brighter future by supporting WWF’s Earth Hour, a symbolic event which was inaugurated in 2007 towards saving the planet, on the 28th of March 2015 between 8.30pm – 9.30 pm.
Textured Jersey has commemorated Earth Hour by pledging to switch off all non-essential lights during the designated hour and a staff awareness through internal circulation of emails and a poster campaign at its factory premises.
Public awareness campaigns were held in Ratnapura and Galle in the previous years and for the third consecutive time, Textured Jersey concluded a very successful campaign at Kurunegala this year. The main objective behind this novel concept, which was introduced in year 2013, is to make the public aware of the importance of Earth Hour and the need to act beyond the hour. Speaking about the latest campaign, Sriyan de Silva Wijeyeratne, CEO of Textured Jersey said, “Environmental sustainability is a major pillar within our company and is of utmost importance to us. The Earth Hour campaign provides the team with an opportunity to educate a much wider audience and help them to think about the small things we can do every day at work or at home and commit to a more sustainable way of living. Our commitment goes beyond slogan and statements, and we are dedicated towards continuous actions which will further this cause. Together, we believe we can positively influence climate change”.
The message was well delivered in support of long lasting action on climate change. TJL is committed to continual change throughout the year that reduces the impact on the environment and unite people island-wide to promote a sustainable living.
Textured Jersey has initiated many energy saving, waste reduction strategies within factory premises resulting in marked reductions in the direct impact to the environment. The company produced the first Green House Gas Report in Sri Lanka and in the Sub-region in accordance with ISO 14064-1, which is a huge stepping stone in minimizing the carbon footprint. The company also produced the Best Green Report in the country for three consecutive years which was recognized at the National Green Reporting System Awards in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Textured Jersey is also the leading fabric mill in the country having won more than 15 awards locally and internationally for its work towards sustainability and the journey continues in creating a better world for the future generations.
