Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo continued their drive to contribute to the community with the fifth CSR project for the year at the Monaragala Piriven Viharaya, Kurunagala on 17 Saturday November 2012.
The hotel gathered a team of 120 associates from various departments from the hotel to carry out the task in Kurunagala. The largest crowd of volunteers gathered thus far, the hotel set upon their journey of cultural restoration.
The fifth edition in the hotel’s campaign to restore religious structures across the country saw the team set about their journey at 4:45 a.m. on Saturday 17 November.
Travelling in three busses for two and a half hours and 114 km to the Monaragala Piriven Viharaya, the team started their mission at 8:20 a.m. The team lead by General Manager Denis Gruhier carried out their work around the 67.5 foot granite Buddha statue, clearing the area of rubble and soil and cleaning the surrounding areas of the temple.
The Samadhi Buddha statue is estimated to be the country’s largest granite statue to date. Started on 13 September 2003, the statue is still under construction.
The team worked around the area of the statue helping to clear rubble created by the carving of the Buddha statue. Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo stands firm with the John Keels pledge ‘I Will Care’ encouraging members of staff from all walks of life and various creeds to join together to help each community out. The Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo team has gradually increased in size for each CSR project they have carried out, signifying the importance of caring for one another, a strong element present throughout the organisation.
The hotel looks to the future to get involved with more projects helping communities near and far all over the country.
Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo’s CSR projects have been a towering strength of team spirit for associates, encouraging team building and bonding which has worked well in the everyday work environment.
The hotel is proud that the enthusiasm of their associates has lead to many members taking their practices in the work place home, where many have contributed and carried out projects in their local community.
Working together to bridge cultural and religious differences is a key factor that the hotel aims to maintain and strengthen for years to come, with many more CSR projects to take place every year.
