The significance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) becoming increasingly important to a company’s competitiveness has led to many of the world’s most successful organisations incorporating social responsibility into their core brand mission and messaging.

As a part of EDULINK’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy that sets out the guiding principles by which they conduct activities to benefit deserving people in their community and  to instil such values amongst their students and graduates, the campus recently carried out a worthy project through its Students Union themed ‘Take me Places’.

The project, organised by the Students Union, comprised of the students of EDULINK putting in their time and effort to initiate an event that gave a sense of joy and happiness to children of the Ginanandha Orphanage through a day out at the Planetarium followed by a session of games and fun at the Viharamahadevi Park.

The day started off with 60 children enjoying a unique educational and entertaining experience at the Planetarium where they witnessed seeing famous constellations and learnt about the galaxy. One of the project’s goals was to give these children an opportunity to develop an interest in science and to tap into their imaginations to help them learn about deep space in an enjoyable way.

This was followed by a visit to the Viharamahadevi Park where they participated in a range of fun and games as well as being hosted for lunch and ice cream.

Students Union President Sahashra Lakpriya said, “We tend to forget that these kids with no parents to give them attention and affection often miss out on the joys of childhood. Our mission therefore was to transport these kids to a day of uninhibited happiness where they can step out of their everyday lifestyle and experience a day of fun and frolic, whilst at the same time gather some knowledge. Therefore it was a real pleasure to carry out a project of this nature and to bring smiles to the faces of these children and to see them enjoy what was to them a day of magic, joy and delight.”

EDULINK Campus Director Kanishka Weeramunda added, “We need to instil the message of being socially responsible and in giving back to the communities amongst the younger generation who will be the future leaders of our organisations .We wanted to empower our students with such a mindset through this project where they will come to understand the importance of designing businesses in a way where prosperity is not only achieved financially, but also in a manner to benefit the society and its community at large.”
