State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene attended a series of religious events held at the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya in Anuradhapura recently.
In view of the forthcoming Poson Poya Day, State Minister Wijewardene together with Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka inaugurated the annual whitewashing of the sacred Mihintale Dagoba.
Chief incumbent of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Walavahangunawawe Dhammarathana Thero presided over the religious observances at the occasion. Subsequently, State Minister Wijewardene together with Minister Ratnayaka enlightened the devotees present of the religious activities that are to be conducted in view of the Poson Poya Day. They also highlighted the Government’s involvement in protecting the sacred Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya and expressed their gratitude towards security forces personnel who are engaged with the ongoing work there.
Venerable members of the Maha Sanga, officers and other ranks of the Sri Lanka Air Force, senior officials of the Lake House, state officials and a large number of devotees were present at the occasion.
