South Asia Textile Industries Lanka and Inner Wheel Club of Colombo West, a Rotary International affiliate, partnered in a joint healthcare initiative for the people of Gampaha District, which involved the building of walking exercise track for elders as well as the donation of dry rations to 150 pregnant mothers. Both of these projects were recently completed at the Pugoda Central Dispensary.
A leading weft knit fabric manufacturer for global brands such as Victoria’s Secret, Marks and Spencer, NEXT, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, PVH/Calvin Klein, Tesco F&F and many others, South Asia Textile Industries Lanka additionally aided the Inner Wheel Club in building a 100-metre-long walking exercise track as well as a children’s park at the same medical clinic, which is close to its Pugoda factory.
Speaking at the unveiling of a plaque commemorating these recent additions, South Asia Textile Industries Lanka CEO Prithiv S. Dorai said, “It is our great honour to join with the Inner Wheel Club of Colombo West in their good work, making significant contributions to the Pugoda Central Dispensary to help elders and pregnant mothers who typically visit this essential medical clinic for periodic free health checks.”
Also speaking, Inner Wheel Club of Colombo West President Kumudini Kulasinghe said, “Helping his neighbours must have been on Mr. Dorai’s mind when he decided to help this women’s hospital, which is next door to his factory, with the company also having donated an ECG machine. No doubt the hospital authorities are extremely grateful to South Asia Textile Industries Lanka and its Management and Board of Directors for this generous act, which would help to serve the community, providing better healthcare.”
Further, Kulasinghe also noted that Inner Wheel Club had joined with South Asia Textile Industries Lanka to distribute dry rations comprising all healthy food for a whole month for 150 pregnant mothers.
“Not only does it save them money, but it also helps them maintain a healthy pregnancy. The walking exercise track, which we have opened today, is for the benefit of elders and pregnant mothers who attend the clinic for free check-ups. This is most useful to them to maintain a healthy life whereby it reduces the intake of unnecessary drugs, which can be harmful. We hope they will make use of this opportunity to live a healthy life.”
South Asia Textile Industries Lanka is a subsidiary company of Lanka Century Investments PLC and Ceylon Leather Products PLC.
