Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the national telecom service provider, in collaboration with the Asia Foundation, conducted a book distribution programme at the Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo 08 to commemorate Children’s Day. The books were distributed to children studying in years 1 to 11, and covered a diverse range of subjects such as English Language, Geography, Science, History, Mathematics, General Knowledge, Sports, story books etc.
Annually, SLT, in collaboration with the Asia Foundation, donates more than 120,000 books to schools, libraries, educational and professional institutions with the aim of playing a catalytic role in addressing the needs of primary, secondary, tertiary and professional education sectors in the country, under one of SLT’s major ongoing CSR projects “Spreading the wealth of knowledge”. During the years 2009 and 2010, a total of over 130,000 books were distributed.
This is the 8th consecutive year that SLT has persisted in its untiring efforts to enhance child, adult and professional education in the island, through these book donation programmes, with the help of Asia Foundation.
The company hopes to complete the target of donating approximately 130,000 books during this year as well.
