The members of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects were invited by the National Physical Planning Department of the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities to conduct an Architectural Advisory Project at the Mattegoda Housing Scheme located in the suburb of Mattegoda in the South of Colombo.
The architects offered a free advisory service to the householders of the housing scheme on not only solving technical problems but also on working out colour schemes when colour washing their houses. The community benefited from the interaction while the professionals had the satisfaction of having reminded themselves of the community obligations of the profession.
This event was part of a series of events organised by the National Physical Planning Department of the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities to commemorate World Habitat Day on 2 October 2011.
Habitat Day is a day identified by the United Nations to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all, to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.
