The Welfare and CSR Society of SJMS Associates, a firm of Chartered Accountants based in Colombo, held a successful session of seminars for year five scholarship students of Padavi-Sripura and Kokilai located in the Vanni region, on 10 and 11 August, 2013.
The seminars were held at Aliwanguwa Maha Vidyalaya and Mahasen Maha Vidyalaya in Padavi-Sripura, and MV/ Kokkuthoduwai Thamil Vidyalayam in Kokilai, with the participation of nearly 600 students from several schools in the vicinity.
In addition to these, a seminar on the English Language paper was also conducted for the benefit of 70 students preparing to sit for their O’Level exam, at Palugaswewa Maha Vidyalaya, Padavi–Sripura. The resource personnel for all these seminars were experienced teachers from D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya and Sirimavo Bandaranayake Vidyalaya of Colombo.
The students who participated were greatly pleased with the programs conducted and the tutorials and guidelines provided, and felt confident about performing well at their examinations. The students also expressed their appreciation to SJMS Welfare and CSR Society for having arranged these programs in areas as remote as theirs.
Sincere gratitude is extended to Brigadier K.G. Devendra Perera and Lieutenant Colonel J.M.L. Jayasundara of the Sri Lanka Army, 62 Division, Galkulama, Padavi–Sripura, for their coordination and support, without which, it would not have been possible to organise such programs in these less-facilitated areas.
