Sinopec Lubricants strengthens local fishing industry

In order to foster and promote the fishing industry in Sri Lanka, SINOPEC, the world’s third largest lubricant company , donated fishing gear to low income fisher families in the Kalutara District.
The ceremony was held recently at the Beruwala Fishing Harbour with the participation of Dr. Sujatha Senaratne, Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Officials of the Beruwala Fishing Harbour and Kalutara District Fishermen’s Federation, and Senior Officials of Sinopec Lubricants.

The program to assist the fishing community in the South was initiated under the guidance of Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.
In an endeavour to respect humanity and recognise social welfare and as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sinopec Lubricants has carried out similar projects for the fishing community on a number of previous occasions, thereby benefiting the community in a significant way.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Senaratne stated: “By providing fishing gear, Sinopec Lubricants has rendered yeoman service to these low income families. They have helped the fishing community on several previous occasions too by providing financial assistance to families affected by tropical storms last year. Their efforts prove the commitment towards the well-being of the fishing community and, should be highly commended.”

Sinopec Lubricants General Manager Ushan Wijewardena said that being a leading worldwide company, they are committed towards the well-being of society. “We launched a number of projects which eventually led to benefit the fishing communities in the country and today’s programme is also part of that. We pay our sincere gratitude to Minister Rajitha Senaratne for the support extended by the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry and its officials during this endeavour,” added Wijewardena.
Sinopec, China’s largest producer and supplier of refined oil products were picked as the third largest company in the world by Fortune 500 magazine in the year 2014. Based in Beijing, China, it is listed in Hong Kong share market and also trades in Shanghai and New York. Their product line includes lubricants, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, etc. and a number of petro chemical products.

Making their presence felt in the Sri Lankan market, the company has grown steadily during its short period of operation and currently a frontrunner among the local lubricant operators by gaining a considerable market share. The company supplies superior quality diesel and petrol automotive lubricants, Industrial Lubricants and greases imported from Singapore and China for a very competitive price.
The fishing community in Sri Lanka will have the opportunity to purchase grease and lubricants for their boats and vessels from Sinopec at every fishing harbour, at reasonable prices.
