One of Sri Lanka’s fastest-growing finance companies, Kanrich Finance monitored over thousands of visitors to the vibrant Kandy perahera and encouraged them to hand over their polythene bags and plastic bottles at collection points at the venue. This project was carried out for five days in a bid to reduce the amount of plastic and polythene bags discarded during the annual event, which affects the natural environment of the sacred and historical location. Kanrich Finance incentivised this initiative by rewarding selected participants who dropped of their refuse at the collection point via promotions on radio and social media.
All the collected plastic and polythene were sent to the Central Environmental Authority’s Recycling plant located in Gohagoda.
