Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne at the inauguration ceremony of the S-lon drinking water project
S-lon Lanka Ltd., the market leader in water management systems and thermoplastic pipes in Sri Lanka, as part of their CSR initiatives, has supported innumerable social and community programs, touching the lives of many Sri Lankans.
Continuing its corporate social responsibility, S-lon Lanka fulfilled a long felt need of the historic Pahiyangala Rock Cave Temple by making drinking water accessible to both the monks and the laity who visit the temple in large numbers with the inauguration of the drinking water project by Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne on Poya Day.
The Pahiyangala Drinking Water Project was initiated by The Capital Maharaja Organisation Ltd. Group Director S.C. Weerasekera, under whose supervision the initiative was completed successfully. Pahiyangala Rock Cave temple located at Bulathsinhala in the Kalutara district is not only regarded as Sri Lanka’s largest cave but also said to be amongst the largest natural rock formations discovered in Asia.
Chief incumbent of the temple Venerable Pahiyangala Chandima Thera commended S-lon Lanka for their sustaining commitment towards fulfilling their corporate social responsibility and thanked S-lon Lanka for the meritorious deed in making water accessible to the 50 monks attached to the vihara and the devotees who come in large numbers climbing the mountain rock especially on Poya days. The event was coordinated by S-lon Lanka Ltd. Manager Product Development and Plumbers Club Shiraas Mohomad, together with the members of S-lon Plumbers Club. The team managed to successfully complete the project within a very short period of time. Venerable Pahiyangala Chandima Thera also praised Mohomad for his determination and enthusiasm over the project and said it was a great service to the social-religious development of the community.
This initiative was envisioned and administered by S.C. Weerasekara. The project received wide acclaim and praise for being exemplary of religious and social cohesion, as the voluntary labour was provided mostly by non-Buddhists, who were very willing and enthusiastic from planning to construction and everything in-between.
