Aviva NDB Insurance will facilitate the presence of 600 lifesavers from the Lifesaving Association of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Police and Navy at reservoirs and tanks in and around Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Dambulla during the Poson season this week.

A contingent of 100 lifesavers left Colombo yesterday aboard the ‘Poson Vandana’ train.

This is the second year that Aviva NDB is offering the free Poson Vandana train for the safety and convenience of devotees and is the 18th consecutive year that the company has been conducting safety awareness programmes for Poson pilgrims.

An estimated one million pilgrims visit Anuradhapura during the Poson season and the Aviva NDB safety programme has significantly reduced the number of deaths from drowning.

Devotees will be able to travel to and from Mihintale in the ‘Aviva NDB Poson Vandana’ free shuttle train that will ply on 14, 15 (Poson Poya Day) and 16 June.

“Our concentrated attention to safety has significantly reduced the number of drowning accidents among Poson pilgrims. Last year we had zero casualties and were able to save 12 lives.

This is one of our main corporate responsibility initiatives that fulfils an important national need,” General Manager, Marketing and Customer Management said.
