As part of its annual Sales Leadership Conference (SLC), Pitney Bowes employees, management and their trip companions volunteered over 200 hours to give a local school a fresh new look recently. Every year, the top sales performers in the growth markets region attend a leadership conference. This year, the conference is running in Negombo from the 24 to 28 April.
Traditionally as part of the conference program, the group is involved in a team building exercise. This year, to make this exercise even more meaningful, the team decided to give back to the community.
In total, more than 70 people were involved and over 200 hours were dedicated in repainting the Ng/Kudapaduwa Sinhala Mix School in Negombo. Pitney Bowes has engaged Browns Tour (subsidiary of Brown and Co.), as the designated destination tour operator for the conference, to jointly plan and organise this community social responsibility project.
“The classes look so cheerful and lively, and I’m sure the children will find the environment encouraging and enjoyable for a better learning experience. Now even the tables and chairs look new,” school Principal Kumar Fernando said.
To add a touch of colour to the walls, each class now has an individual wall mural. The project ended with a presentation of gift packs to the students. In return to show their gratitude, the students put up a simple Sri Lankan dance performance for the Pitney Bowes team. “At Browns, we have organised many such company conferences but we have not had this request until Pitney Bowes Conference Organiser Lynette brought it up. I think this is an excellent idea which could set a trend,” Browns Tours Director General Manager Rajitha Seneviratne added.
