The Arts Festival organised by the People’s Bank for Jaffna and Wanni regions was held recently (22 January) at the Kailasapathi Auditorium of the Jaffna University.

The festival organised by the Arts Circle of People’s Bank witnessed the staff members of the bank from the North and East together with their children on one stage performing Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim cultural items.

The Chief Guest at the event was Jaffna University Vice Chancellor, Professor Wasanthi Arsaratnam. People’s Bank Chairman W. Karunajeewa thanked all the staff members for showcasing their artistic talents in the wake of the peaceful environment that was brought about with the conclusion of a 30 year war.

He further stated that the staff of People’s Bank while being extremely talented and active, that their efforts showcasing their skills on one stage disregarding any race or religion barrier was a good sign for the future of the nation.

Adding his comments, People’s Bank CEO/GM N. Vasantha Kumar said that while the bank initially provided banking services to the people in the North and East by opening branches in these regions, the commitment shown by the staff in providing continued service amidst a war environment is still to this day remembered with gratitude by the people in these areas. He went onto say while connecting the North and East areas, the skills showcased by the staff members of the bank and their children have successfully created goodwill, brotherhood and a change in attitude among them.

He added that the satisfaction received from such an act will spur on the bank to serve the people with strength and commitment in the future.

The handing out of certificates for the Art and Crafts competition held simultaneously with the festival was carried out by the Vice Chancellor of the Jaffna University, Chairman and General Manager of People’s Bank together with the Corporate and Executive Management staff of the bank.

A large number of staff members of the bank from the Jaffna, Vanni and other regions were present at this event.
