New Year marked at Office of Chief of Defence Staff with a solemn ceremony

The Office of the Chief of Defence Staff greeted the New Year with a solemn ceremony marking the first working day in 2014 amidst military customs and traditions.
The Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasuriya hoisted the National Flag initiating the proceedings, which was followed by singing the National Anthem by the joint staff at OCDS.
Two minutes silence was observed in remembrance of officers and other ranks who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.
The joint staff made the pledge of commitment to serve to realise the aspirations of the Sri Lankan Nation in the New Year.
The joint staff partook in sharing traditional sweet meats in the company of the Chief of Defence Staff who exchanged pleasantries with all present.
