As a corporate philanthropy initiative, the NDB Bank Staff Recreation Club reached out to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Borella, by utilising the funds of the Recreation Club to purchase essential medical equipment for the Cardio Thoracic Surgical Unit of the Hospital.

The contributed items include a cardiac bed, bed table, oxygen flow meter, BP cuffs and an emergency trolley, which are vital for day-to-day operations in the unit. The presentation of the medical equipment took place at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital where Russell de Mel, Chief Executive Officer of NDB Bank handed over the items to Dr. Iresh Wijemanne, Head of the Cardio Thoracic Surgical Unit.

Cardio Thoracic Surgical unit of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital was founded in 1997 with the aim of accommodating cardiac patients, gravely in need of medical attention. Being the only Cardio Thoracic Surgical Unit operating in Sri Lanka for children, the unit attempts to administer to as many patients as possible, as it is estimated that over 2,000 children are born each year with cardiac-related illnesses.

Numerous children with cardiac related issues suffer needlessly due to a lack of funds, equipment and facilities. As such, contributions made to the Cardio Thoracic Surgical Unit of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital will undoubtedly create yet another bright day in the lives of their patients and most possibly a positive change in a patient’s life.
