Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL), has concluded four more projects under its CSR initiative ‘Munchee Samaga Gamata Sarana’. The projects were carried out in Beruwala, Bibile, Galle and Jaffna in June and July. Recently completed activities were conducted in the areas of education, health and infrastructure construction development. The Munchee Samaga Gamata Sarana CSR program has reached out to thousands of people in various parts of the island. In the Monaragala district, a 1,200 square foot building which can accommodate around 400 students was donated as a multi-purpose hall to the students of Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya in Bibile. The Beruwala Keeranthidiya Primary School in the Southern Province received a library which can accommodate around 300 students at present and will benefit many other students in the future. Supporting the country’s rehabilitation program in the Northern Province, the dynamic Munchee team joined hands with the Army and donated a fully equipped pre-school to 150 children in and around the area of Manipai Kadduai, Jaffna. Meanwhile, in efforts to further help communities, the Munchee team built a waiting room for the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle. For a hospital which attracts 3,000 visitors daily, a waiting room was a long-felt need for visitors who arrived from distant places to see patients. Commenting on the newly completed projects, Nandana Wickremage, Group Director Sales and Marketing said: “The Gamata Sarana initiative is not only an infrastructure development program but also a social integration and value addition program. As a corporate, we strategically seek to empower villagers to lead better lives and contribute to the development of our country, with the ultimate goal of eradicating poverty. “Thus far, we have completed 54 projects under Munchee Gamata Sarana. Even though the projects have been concluded, once in two months, the Munchee team inspects each site to maintain it at high standards.” He added that anyone seeking assistance through this CSR initiative should contact the Munchee field sales personnel in the area. The Munchee Samaga Gamata Sarana community development program has provided many facilities, including computer labs, eLearning centres, safe drinking water facilities, libraries and classrooms to numerous schools throughout the island.
