Mobil Lubricants Ltd recently donated two infusion pumps to the Kandy General Hospital children’s intensive care unit which has been a dire requirement of the hospital. In Sri Lanka, the paediatric intensive care facility is available in only four hospitals namely; the Kandy General Hospital, Lady Ridgeway hospital (LRH), Sirimavo Bandaranaike memorial children’s hospital (SBSCH) and Karapitiya teaching hospital. The Kandy hospital being one of the main hospitals catering the paediatric population has only four beds in the paediatrics ICU. Yet, children and new born babies with critical illnesses are admitted to this unit from all quarters of the country including central, north central, northern and eastern provinces. Thus there has been a dire need to enhance the capacity and services provided by the unit. The critically ill children and babies need intensive care treatment to survive. After analysing this severe situation, Mobil Lubricants took steps to donate two units of infusion pumps which will add muscle to the paediatrics unit of the hospital to save lives of thousands of ailing children and new born babies. Mobile Lubricants did this as a part of its annual CSR campaign. Speaking at the occasion to hand over the infusion pumps, Mobil Lubricants director Hemantha Varnasooriya said, as the leading lubricant company in Sri Lanka, Mobil Lubricants engage in many CSR projects during a particular year to contribute towards the society. “We understood in our study, that the Kandy hospital has a need for more infusion pumps to treat the critically ill children who are admitted to the hospital from all regions. Also we came to know that the hospital management had a plan to enhance its services. Thus we fell in line with it and donated the two units.” He added, “Children are the future of our country. Hence as a company engaging in ethical business, we strongly feel it is a worthy cause to offer a helping hand for the wellbeing of children. We are dedicated to engage in this kind of CSR projects in the future too.”
