The Sri Lankan business conglomerate, LAUGFS Holdings Ltd., demonstrated its continuing commitment to forging strong bonds with its employees by recently organising its annual gifting of books and stationery as part of its Staff Welfare Program for the 11th consecutive year.
The initiative, which was launched by the LAUGFS Welfare Society in 2005, saw 500 children of staff members presented with books covering a broad range of subjects. LAUGFS Chairman W.K.H. Wegapitiya and Group Managing Director Thilak De Silva also graced the event. Funding for the campaign was provided with personal contributions by the two senior officials along with financial assistance offered by several LAUGFS subsidiaries.
Many youngsters of LAUGFS employees have benefitted immensely as a result of the support provided through this campaign over the years. This year, children from over 300 families of staff members received packs of school books and stationery to start off the new school year.
Those who had secured university entrance and excelled at the Year 5 Scholarship Exam were also feted for their academic achievement during a special segment of the program. Staff members who had passed away were also remembered during the event, with school supplies and funds provided to facilitate education of their children.
The presence of the families of a large number of LAUGFS employees at the event added to the deep sense of camaraderie and made the occasion extra special. It was a day when children were given pride of place with several of them using the event to showcase their talent through a number of entertaining performances.
“This year’s school aid gifting campaign has been yet another resounding success and has more than met its objective of facilitating the educational progress of our staff and their families,” remarked LAUGFS Holdings Ltd. Director/Group Chief Human Resources Officer Dulani Nissanka.
