LAUGFS recently launched the ‘Pehesara’ Art Competition, for the children of employees from across the LAUGFS group. The competition was organised by LAUGFS Corporate HR team as a platform to strengthen engagement with staff and their families by showcasing budding talent of youngsters.

“As a home-grown business with Sri Lankan roots, we have a strong family culture at LAUGFS, where we have created a trusted lasting bond with our staff,” Group CHRO Dulani Nissanka commented. “With our rapid growth over the past 20 years, our work culture has become even more diverse and vibrant with over 4,000 staff spread across the country today. One of the most critical challenges that arise from this is the need to continue to foster our unique family culture and values. It’s important more than ever before, to strengthen our engagement with our staff and their families in making each and every one of them feel as part of our LAUGFS family,” she further elaborated.

The art competition was launched with the Children’s Day and drew in a massive participation throughout the month from children of staff across the group. The competition was open to students from Grade 1 to 13, categorised into four age divisions of Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

The selection committee consisted of an expert panel of judges from the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo. The top three winners in each category were awarded with gift vouchers by LAUGFS Holdings Chairman W.K.H. Wegapitiya and Managing Director Thilak De Silva at a special awards ceremony held at the LAUGFS Head Office in Bambalapitiya, whilst all contestants received a certificate of participation. Winners will also be given the opportunity to visit one of the company plants allowing them to witness the operations firsthand. 

“Creativity is a crucial element in any business endeavour. Today children are very much engrossed in the digital world and get less opportunity to harness such creativity,” stated Nissanka. “The ‘Pehesara’ Art Competition has enabled us to provide a platform to encourage art as a creative expression of a child’s individuality and imagination, whilst also providing a unique opportunity for us to engage with the families of our staff from across the group. We were able to see incredible talent in our children through this program, and have set plans to continue this every year.”
