LAUGFS recently concluded the ‘Pehesara Art Competition 2016’, showcasing the creative talents of the children of its employees from across the group. Held for the second consecutive year, the Pehesara Art Competition has become a popular event among employees, as a platform to encourage and inspire the creativity of children, whilst also proving to be an ideal forum for families and employees to engage with one another.

This year’s art competition, which coincided with the World Children’s Day celebrations, was held under the Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories, and witnessed the submission of more than 240 drawings from children across the island. Following the shortlist of 60 entries, a special awards ceremony was held at the LAUGFS Head Office Auditorium, with the presence of LAUGFS Group Chairman W. K. H. Wegapitiya and Group Managing Director Thilak De Silva.

The winners were selected by a panel of judges headed by University of Visual and Performing Arts Faculty of Visual Arts Dean Prof. M. R. Podinilame

SesathDenipitiya of Homagama Maha Vidyalaya, Chamodya Dewapriya of Buddhist School at Warakapola, Janith Chandrasekara and Ranudhi Chandrasekara, both from Ananda Maithreeya Central College at Balangoda were winners of the Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories respectively.

“It is an absolute pleasure to host the ‘LAUGFS Pehesara Art Competition 2016’ for children of our colleagues to showcase their skills and creativity for the second consecutive year. As an organisation with a strong family culture, we believe that closely engaging with our staff and their families is intrinsic to creating an enhanced and positive work environment. We constantly focus on driving initiatives such as this across the group to engage with our staff scattered across the country,” remarked LAUGFS Holdings Director/CHRO Dulani Nissanka. “We were delighted to witness the level of talent displayed at this year’s competition, and we hope to continue to create such platforms to encourage and empower both our employees and their families to excel both in and beyond the work place,” she further stated.

Those shortlisted were invited to the award ceremony together with their families, where they witnessed the awards distribution and spent a fun-filled morning viewing the gallery of paintings, which were on display. The winners and runners up of the Pehesara Art Competition were rewarded with certificates, gift vouchers, as well as an educational visit to one of the LPG vessels of LAUGFS Maritime, whilst all participants were awarded a certificate in recognition of their participation.
