Khairiya Muslim Girls College, Dematagoda Colombo organised various events from 21 to 25 May, ‘Khairiya Week’, to mark its 135th year. The college was established in 1882 by the late Sulaiman Lebbe.
Khairiya Muslim Girls College has nearly 2,500 students and conducts all three mediums – Sinhala, Tamil and English with the 88 teachers.
‘Khariya Walk’ will be held on 21 May at 7 a.m. beginning at the Khairiya premises with the presence of ministers, MPs, provincial councillors, teachers, parents and students. It will be held under the patronage of Principal of the college Nazeera Hassanar.
On 22 May Language Day and 23 May 135th Anniversary Celebration will be held at the Tower Hall, Maradana at 1 p.m. It will be held under the patronage of Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam with Colombo District Parliamentarian Mujeebur Rahuman and Western Provincial Councillors.
Exhibition and Past Teachers Felicitation ceremony will be held on 24 May at 9 a.m. at the College Rifai Hadjiar Auditorium under the patronage of Western Province Minister of Education, Culture and Arts, Sports and Youth Affairs and Information technology Western Province Ranjith Somawansa and Western Provincial Councillors will grace the event.
