It is heartbreaking to note that some children do not have a home they can be secure in! Until last week Sajeed was in this situation. Sajeed is a bright eight-year old boy and has always been serious about his studies. Despite the financial difficulties and meagre living conditions, Sajeed has performed very well in his exams; he obtained 100 marks for Mathematics at his school’s 3rd term test and received over 80 for all the subjects except Arts. His performance in his studies has been consistent throughout. Sajeed confidently says he wants to be an engineer.
After the death of her husband, Sajeed’s 41 year old mother Zanooziya earns a living by cleaning households in the vicinity. This modest income is barely enough to take care of their basic needs and the house was a mere shack that was ill-suited for human occupancy. This compelling situation was the reason why Give2Lanka with generous funding support from a few individuals joined hands with its development partner MFCD to construct a brand new house for Sajeed and his mother. The new house consists of two bedrooms, a hall area and a small pantry area – all at a cost less than Rs. 600,000. This brand new home was handed over to Sajeed’s family just last week. The humble house warming ceremony marked a great beginning for Sajeed. Work on a second house began last Sunday in Dehiowita with funding from IronOne Technologies Ltd., which will benefit the family of Chandra and her unfortunately sick child. IronOne Technologies’s staff too participated in the Shramadana. With the help of funding from companies as well as individuals they want to create an environment where such bright children can study. It is their firm belief that the only way to create a great country is to create a level playing field for our children.
Give2Lanka has identified over 10 such kids who deserve new homes in the immediate future. Corporate sector and individuals are invited to come forward and support them. This could also be a great opportunity for your company to engage your staff on social habits, such as Shramadana, team work and/or selfless giving. This in turn will help further your social footprint in the country too.
Help us create future leaders of our country and give an equal chance for underprivileged children to pursue education. Visit www.Give2Lanka.org to find out more about them.
