Holcim (Lanka) Executives’ Alumni Club renovates surgical ward 12 of Cancer Hospital

Surgical Ward No. 12 of the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama was renovated by Holcim (Lanka) Executives’ Alumni Club at a cost of over Rs. 600,000 and handed over to the hospital authorities at a ceremony held on 28 October. Dr. Wasantha Dissanayake, Deputy Director of the National Cancer Institute and Phillip Richart, Chief Executive Officer of Holcim (Lanka) Ltd. unveiled the plaque signifying the handing over. A few other items including wall fans, steel cabinet and monitor stands were handed over to Dr. Kanishka Silva and Dr. Mahanada Udukala, the Consultant Surgeons of the ward. President of the Club Sarath Leo Perera addressed the gathering and said the renovation of ward 12 was done by the club; which has been formed by the executive officers who have served Holcim (Lanka) Ltd., and either retired or left the services of the company to continue with the relationship cultivated during their period of service, as a CSR project on its 10th Anniversary. He further said that the contributions received exceeded the budget and the club decided to maintain the ward for few more years out of the excess funds received. Perera thanked the donors for the support extended for the successful completion of the CSR project, Priyanka Kasthuriarachchi, head nursing officer of the ward, Priyantha Jayarathna, chief nursing officer, all doctors and other members of the ward staff and the security staff for the co-operation extended. Past presidents of the club, CEO and Vice President of Holcim (Lanka) Ltd., office bearers and members of the club were among the participants at the ceremony.
