Germs are all around us. The problem is that they are very tiny and are invisible to the human eye. As a result, they can hang around on fingertips for hours and surfaces for days.

Fortunately, though most germs could be shrugged off by our immune systems, there are germs which lead to illnesses and diseases.

Therefore, it is important to know about germs, infectious diseases and simple ways to avoid getting and spreading them.

Unilever’s flagship germ-fighter brand, Lifebuoy, who protects people from germs that cause 10 common infections, came forward once again to educate children and parents in this regard by conducting a series of action camps in Kandy and Kuliyapitiya recently.

There was a good response from those were living around. Many turned up to be a part of the excitement. A variety of activities were lined up to provide useful information about germs and germ protection in a more interactive and fun filled way.

“My children had a great time taking part in games. They won prises too,” Devika, a mother of two, who was at the Kandy activation camp said. According to her, dancing and taking photos with Germ Fighters gave children a lot of fun. Sessions with doctors explaining germs, related illnesses and proper hand washing demonstrations caught attention of parents.

Sithun, a six year old, who came to Kuliyapitiya Activation Camp liked the games with germs very much. “I won prices and was selected to the Germ-fighter force too,” he said.

A doctor involved in conducting educational programs in the action camps was of the view that it is a good thing to educate general public about germs through interactive modes.  According to him, hand washing is a basic step towards preventing germ related diseases which even doctors and nurses practice regularly while on duty. Sharing his experiences further about the camps he said that parents were really keen to know about prevention methods of germ related diseases.

Lifebuoy, sincerely working towards a healthy society free from illnesses, herewith thanks all those who took interest in taking part in the camps to improve their knowledge about germs and germ protection.

Now it is your turn…Let’s start within our own home with our own family. Put what you have learnt into practice. Help make our dream of healthy society turning in to a reality sooner than expected...an invitation to you from Lifebuoy with Unilever. The next action camp will be in Debarawewa Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Tissamaharamaya on 15 July.
