HDFC Bank, in collaboration with the Non Communicable Disease Unit of the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition, conducted a free health camp at Manning Market Complex, Pettah in Colombo recently.

The objective of the camp was to provide free medical consultation and basic check-ups with health advice to the community of Manning Market. A team comprising five doctors, two nurses and other medical staff took part at this medical camp.

Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition Non Communicable Disease Unit Director Dr. V.T.S.K. Siriwardena provided necessary advice on organising the health camp and said that this would contribute greatly to make aware the public on major risk factors for non-communicable diseases, such as smoking, alcohol, obesity, unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyles and other two risk factors namely environmental pollution and mental stress.

A large number of small entrepreneurs and the employees at the Manning Market Complex attended the camp. They received the basic examination for blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and height, dietary and other health advice.

Lal Hettige, the President of the Traders Association in the complex expressed his extreme gratitude for organising the event. HDFC Bank GM/CEO Nimal Mamaduwa, CFO D. Vidana Pathirana, CIA A.J. Athokorala, AGM (Business Promotions and Marketing) H.S. Gunathilake, and HDFC staff members were also present at the occasion.

The Pettah area, where a large number of people who lack resources and time to attend to their health was selected by the bank to hold the camp, following careful consideration towards the necessity to organise such an event. Aiming at the financial empowerment of the small scale business community in the Manning Market in Pettah, HDFC Bank provides the mobile banking service to improve and uplift the living conditions of the families while expecting a favourable ground towards the welfare, education as well as the social and economic development of such families.
