The Bentota Beach Hotel belongs to a small group of Elite Green Globe Members, renowned to lead by example. This property stands out with their CSR initiatives and numerous awareness programs. In line with the John Keells Leisure Group pledge “I Will Care,” Green Globe member, the Bentota Beach Hotel in Bentota, Sri Lanka, joined hands with the Medical and Health Officers at the local Maternity Clinic Sooriyagama, to raise awareness among pregnant mothers on HIV-Aids – commemorating World Aids Day on 1 December. The program was organised by the management and staff of the Bentota Beach Hotel. The key objective of the event was to educate pregnant women on how HIV-Aids could be identified during the pregnancy period, to offer proper treatment before children are born. 70 pregnant mothers and the Public Health Inspector of the Bentota area participated at the seminar, which was held at the ‘Gallery’ at the hotel. Just a few days earlier, on 12 November, the Bentota Beach Hotel team was involved in another corporate social responsibility project at the maternity clinic at Sooriyagama, Haburugala. Hotel management representatives Marlon Robert, Krishantha Wanigasekara, Swarna Kumarasinghe and Ruwan Vidanapathirana visited the clinic to identify operational needs. The hotel donated hand towels, table clothes, electric kettles and flasks, a new water filter, weighing scales, and a minibar refrigerator. “Access to early HIV diagnosis, although critical for prompt initiation of antiretroviral therapy in HIV-positive children, is extremely limited in South Asia,” commented Swarna Kumarasinghe, Environmental Officer at the Bentota Beach Hotel. “We are committed to support the community, and do what we can to contribute to an Aids-free generation in the region.” The Bentota Beach Hotel is part of John Keells Hotels PLC, which is the hospitality leader in the Sri Lanka and Maldivian sector. The hotel, designed and based on an ancient Dutch fort by the famous Geoffrey Bawa, is situated in the southern coastal zone of Sri Lanka, at the point where the Bentota River flows into the Indian Ocean. Bentota is known for its stretches of indigo sea and golden sands, a peaceful perfect beach sanctuary to escape to. The property offers 130 superlative rooms and 3 suites, all of which have sea-front or river views. All rooms are color-washed in somber beiges and whites and decorated with bright colored bed spreads and pillows. The resort offers a wide array of services, including a water sport center, tennis courts, and the Azmaara Spa.
